Kathmandu. A major accident took place in Nepal on Friday. A landslide occurred on the Madan-Ashri highway in central Nepal, due to which two buses carrying about 63 passengers were swept away into the Trishuli River. A total of 63 passengers, including the drivers, were travelling in both the buses.
Chitwan Chief District Officer Indradev Yadav confirmed the incident and said that according to initial information, a total of 63 people including bus drivers were travelling in both the buses. Due to the landslide, the buses were swept away into the river at around 3:30 am.
There is difficulty in searching for missing buses due to rain

The Nepali Prime Minister expressed grief over the incident
Nepal's Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has expressed grief over this incident by tweeting on Twitter. He said, “I am deeply saddened by the reports of about five dozen passengers missing after the bus was swept away in a landslide on the Narayangarh-Muglin road section and the loss of property due to floods and landslides in various parts of the country. I direct all government agencies including the Home Administration to search and effectively rescue the passengers.”Due to bad weather, all flights from the capital Kathmandu to Bharatpur, Chitwan have been cancelled for today.
Buses were going from Kathmandu to Rautahat's Gaur
According to District Magistrate Indradev Yadav, the landslide swept away two buses named Angel and Ganapati Deluxe which were travelling from Kathmandu to Gaur in Rautahat. According to initial reports, the Kathmandu-bound bus had 24 people on board and the other bus had 41 people on board.
Relief and rescue work continues
Giving information, officials have said that three passengers travelling in Ganpati Deluxe were successful in saving their lives by jumping from the bus. Superintendent of Police Bhavesh Rimal said that Nepal Police and Armed Police Force personnel are engaged in relief and rescue work.
