News Topical, Digital Desk : A corruption investigation into a residential plot scam against former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her nieces Azmina Siddique and 17 of their associates, including British MP Tulip Siddique, began in a Dhaka court on Wednesday with the recording of statements of complainants.

Anti-Corruption Commission official testified

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) assistant director Afnan Jannat Keya testified before Dhaka Special Court-4 Judge Mohammad Rabiul Alam, according to The Daily Star newspaper.

Cases have been filed against 17 people

Earlier, ACC Deputy Director Mohammad Salauddin, a complainant in another corruption case, gave a statement before Judge Alam in another case in which 17 people, including Hasina, Sheikh Rehana and Tulip, were booked.

Tulip Siddiq, who represents London's Hampstead and Highgate constituency, resigned as Treasury minister earlier this year following corruption allegations against her family.

42-year-old politician made allegations

The 42-year-old politician, who has repeatedly denied allegations of wrongdoing, has accused the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government in Dhaka of carrying out a well-planned "mud-slinging campaign" to defame her name.

The process of recording statements began on August 11 in three other cases against 77-year-old Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Zay and daughter Saima Wazed Putul in connection with alleged corruption in the allotment of land plots, the daily Bangla paper Pratham Alo reported.

Anti-corruption body strongly criticized the matter

The anti-corruption body filed six cases against Hasina, her family members and 23 others between January 12 and 14 for alleged irregularities in the allotment of plots under the Purbachal New Town project. Sajeeb Wazed, son of former prime minister Hasina, strongly criticised the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus for hatching "fabricated" cases against him.

Hasina and her family charged in six cases

Her comments on Xpost came after a Bangladeshi court on July 31 charged Hasina, her son Wazed, daughter Saima Wazed Putul and several others in six Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) cases. The court also issued arrest warrants against them and fixed Wednesday for recording witness statements.
