A shocking incident has come to light from Raichur in Karnataka. Here many wild rabbits have been killed in the name of tradition. In this case, a case has been registered against 30 people including the son and brother of a Congress MLA.

The incident took place in Truvihal village of Raichur district of Karnataka, where a festival was organized in the local temple on Monday, the day after Yugadi. During this, Satish Gowda, son of Congress MLA from Maski Basanagouda Truvihal, and brother Siddan Gowda took part in a procession. These two and some other people with them were seen hunting a wild rabbit by hanging it on a stick and brandishing sharp weapons.

What is this tradition?

It was told that this is a part of the tribal tradition of the village, but it is against the Wildlife Protection Act, due to which the problems of all these people have increased. The Forest Department has taken cognizance of the matter and has started the process of registering a case against 30 people including the MLA's brother and son. The police is also waiting for the court's instructions after the action of the Forest Department.

However, Maski MLA Basanagouda was seen defending his brother and son. He says that they were following a centuries-old tradition. The MLA says that being a public representative, he is trying to create awareness among the people about such practices.

He said that on the occasion of Yugadi Divas Aacharana, a Shobha Yatra was taken out in the temple, in which my brother and son also participated. The weapons shown in it were worshipped, after which they were taken out in a procession. This is part of tradition. As far as hunting of wild rabbit is concerned, I have no information about it. Neither did any member of my family hunt. Since my son and brother reached the procession, people lifted them on their shoulders. This is part of a tradition that has been going on for a long time and people's sentiments are attached to it. I will only say that according to the Constitution, whatever awareness is needed to be brought about conservatism among the people, we are working in that direction.
