The announcement was made by Maldives Home and Technology Minister Ali Ihsan at the Maldives President's Office on Sunday. According to a press release, President Mohamed Muizzu has approved the ban on Israeli passport holders entering his country following a recommendation by the Cabinet.
Maldives to appoint special envoy
Mohammed Muizzu has decided to appoint a special envoy to know the needs of the Palestinians. He will also start a campaign to collect funds to help the Palestinian people. In this work, he will take the help of the United Nations relief agency for Palestinian refugees. Maldives has taken this step to show solidarity with the Palestinians.
Maldives government's decision amid Israel-Hamas war
This decision of the Maldives government has come at a time when a war has broken out between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. This war started last year when on 7 October, Hamas entered Israel and carried out a horrific terrorist attack, killing more than 800 Israeli citizens in a few hours and taking 240 people hostage. In retaliation to this incident, the Israeli government launched a fierce war in the Gaza Strip area of Hamas.

More than 36 thousand people have been killed in this war so far. Every year about 15 thousand Israelis come to Maldives as tourists. But after this step taken by Maldives against Israel, the Israeli administration has also asked all Israelis including its citizens with two passports to avoid going to Maldives. The Israeli government says that in this environment, if they get into any trouble there, the government will not be in a position to help them.
