Every year 5th September is celebrated as Teacher's Day in India, which is mainly the birthday of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. The Indian Guru-Shishya system has very deep roots. This is evident from the fact that from the Ramayana period to the Mahabharata, there is a description of very powerful and influential teachers. Let's know about them.  

 

Parshuram

 

Parshuram ji was born as the son of sage Jamadagni in Treta Yuga. Parshuram ji is the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, who learned the art of war from Mahadev himself. His description is found in Ramayana as well as Mahabharata. Along with this, he is also included among those Chiranjivis who have received the boon of immortality. He has been a disciple of great warriors, which includes the names of Dronacharya, Suryaputra Karna and Bhishma Pitamah.

 

Guru of the Gods

 

Devguru Brihaspati is not only considered important from the astrological point of view, but he is also called the Guru of all the Gods and Goddesses. In the Puranas, Brihaspati is said to be the son of Maharishi Angira. Along with being the symbol of truth, he is also considered the master of wisdom and speech power. It is said about him that he protects the Gods from demons by using Rakshoghra mantras.

 

Maharishi Ved Vyas

Ved Vyas is mainly known as the author of Mahabharata. Guru Purnima, which has special significance in Hinduism, is also celebrated on his birthday. Maharishi Ved Vyas's father was Rishi Parashar and his mother's name was Satyavati. Along with being an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Maharishi Ved Vyas is also one of the seven immortals. Maharishi Ved Vyas taught Rishi Jaimin, Vaishampayana, Muni Sumantu, Romaharshan etc.

 

Adi Guru Shankaracharya

 

Adi Shankaracharya was a great philosopher, who is called the religious guru of Hindus. He was born in the eighth century in a Brahmin family in Kaladi village of Kerala. At the age of seven, he mastered the Vedas. Shankaracharya is also credited with establishing 4 holy places. According to many beliefs, Adi Shankaracharya is considered to be the incarnation of Lord Shiva. Not only this, Adi Shankaracharya also worked to revive the principles of ancient Indian Upanishads and Hindu culture.
