Kannada actress Ranya Rao, who is in jail on charges of gold smuggling, has received a big setback from the Sessions Court. The court has rejected the actress' bail plea. According to the information, actress Ranya Rao's bail plea has been rejected by the lower court for the third time. Now Ranya can knock the door of the High Court for bail.
Ranya Rao will have to stay in jail for now
Kannada actress Ranya Rao, arrested for her alleged involvement in the gold smuggling case, will remain in judicial custody after the sessions court on Thursday rejected her bail plea. Earlier on March 14, the Special Court for Economic Offences rejected her bail plea. Ranya had earlier applied for bail in the Magistrate Court, but her request was rejected.
Due to this reason the bail application was rejected
The court cited several reasons for refusing bail. The court reasoned that if the actress is released, she may flee the country. There were also concerns that she could potentially influence witnesses or hamper the investigation.
The investigating officers gave this argument in the court
Investigating officials told the court that Ranya has international links in the gold smuggling case, raising concerns over cross-border implications. Ranya is also accused of violating custom baggage rules during her frequent foreign trips. Records show that the actress had traveled abroad 27 times within a year.
The officials argued that if Ranya was granted bail, she could potentially tamper with evidence or mislead the investigation. The court also took note of allegations that she was involved in evasion of customs duty to the extent of 28 per cent, leading to a total loss of Rs 4,83,72,694 to the exchequer.
