Jerusalem: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has congratulated his counterpart Narendra Modi on the BJP party's victory in India's general election and expressed hope that India-Israel relations will touch "new heights".
According to the results from all Lok Sabha constituencies, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 240 out of 543 seats and the Congress won 99 seats.
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance has easily crossed the majority mark of 272 in the 543-member Lok Sabha.
Netanyahu tweeted on social media platform X: "I heartily congratulate PM @narendramodi on his election for the third consecutive term. May the friendship between India and Israel continue to grow to new heights. Congratulations!"
Modi was the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Israel since diplomatic relations were established between the two countries in 1992.
He made a much-publicised solo visit to Israel in July 2017, which was seen by many in the context of the Israeli–Palestinian conflict and New Delhi's efforts to balance India's ties with the region.
He later also visited the West Bank, but skipped the visit to Israel and focused on India's relations with Palestine.
Netanyahu's friendship with Modi made headlines in Israel after the "chemistry" between the two was discussed following a viral photo of them walking barefoot on an Israeli beach.
