Hyderabad: A 55-year-old man was killed when an IED planted by the banned CPI (Maoist) exploded in a forest area in Telangana's Mulugu district on Monday.

According to police, the man stepped on an IED near Kongal village in Wajidu mandal of the district. He died on the spot when it exploded. A senior police officer said that the explosion took place when the villager, his son and three others were going to collect wood in the nearby forest.According to the police, Maoists are frequently planting IEDs on the routes of people to make their presence felt. Police said that on May 30, a pet dog of another villager was killed in a similar explosion.
