Problems of train passengers will be reduced
Train passengers had to face a lot of problems due to the increased number of people returning home from different cities a few days ago during the festive season. Large scale arrangements were made by the railways to transport the passengers to their destinations, but the general class coaches of trains going to Bihar and Uttar Pradesh were falling short.
Around eight lakh rail passengers will be able to travel daily
Keeping this in mind, the railways have already started preparing for Holi. By the end of this month, the railways will add one thousand new coaches to different trains. The coaches being prepared will be added to 370 trains running from different parts of the country. The railways are planning to add 10 thousand new non-AC coaches to trains running on various routes across the country in the next two years. This will enable about eight lakh rail passengers to travel daily.
After November, more than a thousand coaches will be added to about 650 regular trains
In the last three months, the Railways has added about 600 new additional coaches of General Class (GS) in various trains. All these coaches have been added to regular trains. In the month of November, more than one thousand coaches of GS class will be added to about 650 regular trains.
Dilip Kumar, Executive Director (Information and Publicity) of Railway Board, said that general class passengers are among the top priorities of the railways. The railways are working in various directions to provide maximum facilities to the passengers of this category. Under this, a total of 583 new GS class coaches were manufactured during the three months from July to October.
Coaches attached to 229 regular trains
Also, these newly built coaches have been added to 229 regular trains. Thousands of additional passengers are benefiting from this every day. He said that by this November, more than one thousand new coaches of GS category will be ready and added to the railway fleet. These will be added to 647 regular trains. With the inclusion of these coaches, about one lakh additional passengers will be able to benefit from rail travel every day.
Construction of new GS coaches is progressing rapidly
The Executive Director said that in view of the convenience of general class passengers, the construction of new GS coaches is going on at a fast pace. He said that in the next two years, more than ten thousand such non-AC general class GS coaches will be included in the railway fleet. Among these, more than six thousand will be GS coaches, while the rest of the coaches will be of sleeper class.
With the inclusion of such a large number of non-AC coaches, about eight lakh additional passengers of general class will be able to travel by train every day. All these newly built coaches of GS class will be of LHB. In case of an accident, the damage to these coaches will also be minimal.
