A primary school teacher in the US has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing and keeping a child with her 13-year-old former student. The child had been with her for several years.
According to the New York Post, Laura Caron, a 5th grade teacher at a New Jersey elementary school, had a sexual relationship with the student, both of whom lived together in the same house, between 2016 and 2020.
Where did the teacher meet the child for the first time?
- Karen first met the child when she taught him and his brother in fifth grade.
- Giving information about this case, the police said that the boy, born in 2005, was very close to his family.
- The boy's parents even allowed their sons and daughter to spend a few nights at Karen's home before the children moved there permanently sometime in 2016.
- Karen allegedly had sex with her former student and later became pregnant.
- She gave birth to the child in 2019; the student was 13 when their child was born, while Karen was 28, the prosecutor's office said.
father revealed
Investigators learned of the alleged sexual abuse after the boy's father pointed out similarities between Karen's child, himself, and his son in a Facebook post in December. The boy's sister also told prosecutors she remembers sleeping in the same room as her brother, but when she woke up she found him sleeping in Karen's bed, the outlet reports. She claimed Karen started sleeping with her brother when he was 11 years old.
The child, who is now between 19 and 20 years old, revealed to investigators a sexual relationship with Karen and said he was the father of his former teacher's child. The two remained in contact until his father pointed out similarities in a Facebook post.
Police arrested the accused
Karen was now arrested by the police and is charged with aggravated sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child. She is being held at the Cape May County Correctional Facility until her court appearance.
“This arrest underscores the unwavering commitment of our office and law enforcement partners to protecting children in our community,” Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland said, according to the Post.
