Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation Director General (DGP) Ramachandra Rao on Thursday denied any knowledge of his stepdaughter and actress Ranya Rao's alleged involvement in gold smuggling and termed the situation as "unimaginable". Gold bars worth Rs 12.56 crore were seized from Kannada actress Ranya Rao by officials at the Kempegowda International Airport here recently.

Senior IPS officer Ramachandra Rao said that it is extremely sad that despite a lifetime of dedication, my reputation and family's future is being tarnished by something that is now beyond our control. He said, "I appeal to all of you to accept that I am also a grieving parent. I too have no idea about this unimaginable situation that is unfolding in my life." He assured that legal action will be taken if Ranya has violated any law. Ranya is the stepdaughter of senior IPS officer Ramachandra Rao.

On the other hand, on Thursday, a court here reserved its decision on the bail plea of ​​Kannada actress Ranya Rao. The Economic Offenses Court will pronounce its verdict on Friday after the arguments of the DRI. The DRI has sought custody of Ranya Rao for further investigation. During the court proceedings, the DRI sought three-day custody of Rao, stressing the need for a thorough investigation due to possible national security implications. The agency stressed that his interrogation could reveal links to a large smuggling syndicate, which requires a multi-layered investigation.
