The Union Home Ministry (MHA) has taken a big action in the case of digital arrest and cyber fraud. Recently it is being told that the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C) and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) have blocked at least 17,000 WhatsApp accounts used by cyber criminals from Southeast Asia.
A post has also been made by the Ministry of Home Affairs on X, Cyberdost, operated by the Home Ministry, said that its purpose is to disrupt criminal networks and strengthen India's digital security. According to sources, the location of IPDR (Internet Protocol Detail Record) of digital fraudsters arrested is Cambodia, Myanmar and Vietnam. Here they were being used for cyber fraud.
45 percent of frauds come from South East Asia
In May this year, the Home Ministry set up an inter-ministerial committee in response to a major surge in international organised cybercrime originating from Southeast Asian countries such as Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos-Philippines. Nearly 45 per cent of cyber-financial frauds in India are committed from locations in Southeast Asia. These crimes have become more dangerous and bigger, costing victims a lot of money.
I4C has taken several steps to damage the infrastructure used by the hackers. Indian nationals protesting in the Cambodian city were arrested and steps were taken to send them back home and keep them safe.
What is 14C?
I4C focuses on tackling all issues related to cybercrime for citizens, including improving coordination between various law enforcement agencies and stakeholders, transforming India's ability to combat cybercrime, and improving citizen satisfaction levels. The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre scheme was approved on October 5, 2018.
