Cases of Human Metapneumovirus i.e. HMPV are increasing in the country. Now two patients of HMPV infection have been found in Nagpur on January 3. These include a 7-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, whose reports have come out to be HMPV positive. Both the children had problems of cough and fever, after which they were tested and the report came out positive.

Meanwhile, the Union Health Ministry tried to allay fears and said that it is fully prepared to deal with any possible increase in respiratory diseases. HMPV is a virus that causes respiratory disease globally. Recently, news of its outbreak in China caught the world's attention. It is a viral pathogen that causes respiratory infections in people of all age groups.
State governments assured
The governments of Karnataka, Gujarat and Maharashtra have assured that there is no need to panic. At the same time, the Delhi government directed all the hospitals in the capital to be fully prepared to deal with a possible increase in respiratory diseases. The Union Health Ministry, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) are keeping a close watch on the situation on this virus. The World Health Organization (WHO) is also paying attention to this and will soon share its report. He made it clear that according to the data released by the Indian Council of Medical Research and the Integrated Disease Surveillance Program, no significant increase has been seen in any common respiratory viral infections in India.
