During the state legislative elections, residents of Delhi cast their vote Wednesday and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying to regain power. The BJP has not won in this region in over 25 years, and it is first taking on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led by Arvind Kejriwal, as he rode a wave of popularity after a wave of anti-corruption efforts and welfare policies. Though Kejriwal was popular, he suffered from an tarnished image owing to corruption charges. One expects the election results Saturday with 15 million people eligible to vote. With the imploding Congress, the BJP hopes it can recoup some lost ground from the recent victories in two state elections and a Federal Budget which cut income taxes to the salaried middle class, a vital electoral bloc. The AAP won a landslide in the 2020 legislative elections with 62 of the 70 seats and the BJP got just 8.
