Shia religious leader and legendary billionaire Aga Khan (Prince Karim al-Husseini Aga Khan IV) is no more. He breathed his last on Tuesday (February 4) in Lisbon (Portugal) at the age of 88. He was considered a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad's lineage. 

 

His Highness Prince Karim al-Husseini Aga Khan IV, the 49th Imam of Shia Ismaili Muslims, died on Tuesday, the Ismaili religious community announced on its websites. Aga Khan IV's successor is named in his will. He is survived by three sons and a daughter.

 

Worked for the welfare of the poor

He dedicated his entire life to public welfare. Aga Khan IV has helped the poorest and most marginalized communities in the world.  

He founded the Aga Khan Foundation in 1967. The foundation works in 18 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North America. The Aga Khan Foundation offers its condolences to his family and the Ismaili community around the world. 

 

Aga Khan was a descendant of Prophet Muhammad

The Aga Khan's family is believed to be a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad. He was a descendant of Prophet Muhammad's daughter Hazrat Bibi Fatima and the Prophet's cousin and son-in-law Hazrat Ili, the fourth Caliph of Islam and the first Shia Imam. He was made the 49th Imam and spiritual leader of Ismaili Muslims at the age of just 20.
