News Topical, Digital Desk : Amid the ongoing war in the Middle East, the crackdown on black marketers exploiting the nationwide gas cylinder shortage has begun. The Electricity Distribution Department has launched a major crackdown in Mumbai's Worli area, busting a gas cylinder black market. A raid was conducted at Suraj Vallabhdas Chawl on Ganpatrao Kadam Marg in Worli Naka, resulting in the seizure of a large number of domestic and commercial gas cylinders.

Input received, team raided - 172 cylinders seized

Officials received information that some people in the Suraj Vallabhdas Chawl area were hoarding gas cylinders and selling them at inflated prices. Based on this information, the team raided the site. During the raid, six filled and 58 empty HP gas cylinders were found. Additionally, 64 filled 4 kg and 19 filled 12 kg Super gas cylinders were seized. Twenty-five additional empty cylinders of various sizes were also recovered. A total of 172 cylinders were seized.

Preparations were underway to fill it illegally and sell it in the black market

According to officials, these cylinders were being illegally refilled and sold on the black market at high prices. Amid a nationwide gas cylinder shortage, such hoarding further exacerbates the problems faced by ordinary consumers. All the seized cylinders have been handed over to the police for further action, and the police are investigating the matter.

Hoarding in residential areas poses threat to life

The administration stated that storing such large quantities of gas cylinders in a residential area is extremely dangerous. Any negligence could result in a major accident and seriously endanger the lives of people living nearby. The administration has clearly stated that strict action will continue against those hoarding and black marketing gas cylinders.
