
News Topical, Digital Desk : Thirty-six people have been reported dead so far in the stampede that occurred during a TVK political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, and the death toll is expected to rise. Chief Minister MK Stalin has expressed his deep condolences over the tragic incident. The Tamil Nadu Chief Medical Officer (CMO) has issued a statement regarding the incident.
According to a statement issued by the Tamil Nadu CMO, Chief Minister MK Stalin said, “I will personally visit Karur tonight to meet the families of the victims, express my condolences and meet those undergoing treatment in hospitals.”
36 people have died so far
He said, "I am deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the heartbreaking news of the deaths of 36 people, including 8 children and 16 women, in a mob attack at a Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam political campaign meeting in Karur today. I have directed that all those admitted to hospitals for treatment receive the best possible medical care."
"To ensure this, I have immediately sent the Minister of School Education and the Minister of Health and Family Welfare to Karur. Additionally, the District Collectors of Trichy, Salem, and Dindigul have been sent to Karur with medical teams to assist," he added.
Announced Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the deceased
CM Stalin said, "I have also ordered that the families of the deceased be given ₹10 lakh each from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund. Each person receiving intensive care in hospitals will be given ₹1 lakh. Furthermore, a one-member inquiry commission headed by retired High Court judge Justice Aruna Jagadeesan will be immediately formed to conduct a thorough investigation and submit a report to the government."
