New Delhi. Weather Update Today: People of North India are not going to get any relief from the scorching sun, hot winds and scorching heat. The temperature of many states including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, North Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan has reached above 40 degrees. Surprisingly, people are sweating even in hilly areas. According to the latest update of IMD, the temperature of Una in Himachal Pradesh has crossed 44 degrees.  

The heat continues in these states

On Sunday, severe heat was observed in many parts of Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi and some parts of western Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat and northern Madhya Pradesh. At the same time, hot winds also blew in some parts of Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Punjab and some places in eastern Uttar Pradesh. According to the Meteorological Department, heat wave is likely to occur in some places of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi and Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Gujarat, Saurashtra and Kutch during 22 to 23 May. 

Heatwave alert for next 5 days 

According to the IMD, hot winds to severe heat conditions are likely to continue in the plains of northwest India during the next 5 days. At the same time, hot winds are also likely to persist in eastern and central India. However, people are getting relief from rain in many states amid the scorching heat. Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in South Peninsular India.

The Meteorological Department said that a low pressure area is likely to form over the southwest Bay of Bengal around May 22. It will initially move northeast and turn into a depression over the central parts of the Bay of Bengal around May 24.

Where will it rain?

Light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep, Karnataka. Scattered light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are very likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana & Rayalaseema during next 7 days.

Heavy rainfall is expected in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal and Kerala and Mahe on 23 May. Apart from this, heavy rainfall is expected in coastal Karnataka on 21 and 22 May. For this, IMD has issued an orange alert. At the same time, extremely heavy rainfall is also expected at some places in Tamil Nadu and Kerala during 19 to 22 May. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for here too.
