Moscow: In an operation by security agencies in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic in Russia's North Caucasus region, 15 people from the extremist Islamic community have been arrested. Weapons and banned religious literature have been seized from them.

The action took place in Ismaily village of Baksan district

The Federal Security Service (FSB) said in a statement that its agents, together with the Interior Ministry and the National Guard, had curbed the activities of the extremist group after its members were found to be carrying out their operations via WhatsApp Messenger. A total of 15 Russian citizens were arrested in the operation in the village of Ismailye in the Baksan district.

According to the FSB, those arrested are accused of involvement in public dissemination of radical ideology against the laws of the Russian Federation, as well as in carrying out violent acts motivated by religious hatred.

Russia has said it will not test nuclear weapons as long as the United States refrains from such tests, President Vladimir Putin's ally and arms control chief said on Monday, fuelling speculation that Russia could abandon a post-Soviet moratorium on nuclear testing.
