New York: Bangladesh interim government chief Muhammad Yunus, who arrived in the US to attend the 79th United Nations General Assembly session, faced protests outside his hotel in New York late Monday night. Before his arrival at the official hotel in New York, protesters raised slogans of 'go back' against Muhammad Yunus. The protesters also raised slogans against Yunus for attacks on minorities including Hindus in Bangladesh.
Sheikh Hasina is our Prime Minister- Protesters
When the Indian media team tried to ask him questions, he even avoided answering them. In the video that was aired, Yunus's security personnel are seen trying to keep the journalists away. The protesters shouted slogans that Yunus should go back, he should resign. They were holding banners in their hands on which it was written that Sheikh Hasina is our Prime Minister.
The protesters alleged that 84-year-old Yunus took over power in Bangladesh illegally and unconstitutionally. He grabbed power with dirty politics and many people were killed unnecessarily.
A protester Sheikh Jamal said that our elected Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has not resigned yet. We humbly request the United Nations that Yunus does not represent the Bangladeshi people here. He should be sent back.
we want peace
Another protester DM Ronald said that we want peace. We believe in secular democracy. After gaining power by force, they have started killing Hindus and Christians.
On the other hand, Bangladesh's foreign affairs adviser Mohammad Tauhid Hussain has said that Hindus in Bangladesh are citizens of the country and the interim government is making every possible effort to protect the citizens in the country. He said that whatever violence has happened is being shown as violence against Hindus, this is not correct.
