News Topical, Digital Desk : The Election Commission of India announced on Monday, October 27, that after Bihar, the Special Intensive Revision ( SIR ) exercise is now being initiated in 12 states and union territories. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar told reporters that the primary objective of the SIR is to include eligible voters in the list and remove ineligible ones from the voter list. He said that after the completion of the first phase in Bihar, the second phase of the SIR is being started in 12 states and union territories.
Uttar Pradesh is one of these 12 states where the SIR process will be adopted. This process will also impact the Panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh. Until now, it was believed that the Panchayat elections would begin in the first week of February. However, after the SIR order, these elections may now be postponed until March or April.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar stated that training for Block Officers (BLOs), EROs, and Deputy Election Officers (DEOs) will begin tomorrow. All political parties should also appoint their booth-level officers. BLOs will also hold meetings with the BLAs ( Benjamin Lok Sabha members). The Aadhaar card is not proof of citizenship, but it can be used for identification. The Indian Citizenship Act has a separate law governing Assamese citizenship. Therefore, separate SIR orders will be issued for Assam .
A BLO will be deployed at every booth.
Gyanesh Kumar said that each polling booth will have 1,000 voters, and a BLO will be stationed at each booth. BLOs will deliver forms to homes, and BLOs will visit each home three times. Voters in urban areas can fill out the forms online, and it is the BLO 's responsibility to ensure that eligible voters are not missed.
SIR will be conducted in 12 states/union territories
It should be noted that the second phase of SIR will be conducted in 12 states/union territories. These 12 states include West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Puducherry, Madhya Pradesh, Lakshadweep, Kerala, Gujarat, Goa, Chhattisgarh, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
