News Topical, Digital Desk : Japan has decided to deploy its Type-12 surface-to-ship missiles at Camp Kengun in southwestern Kumamoto Prefecture. This decision has infuriated China. China's People's Liberation Army has condemned the move, saying it could create a kill network capable of striking both coastal and inland targets in neighboring countries.

Amid rising tensions in the East China Sea, Japan has prepared to expand its long-range missile capabilities. The Type-12 missile is one of these. According to the PLA, their range has been increased from 200 km to 1,000 km.

Claims in PLA report

Hua Dan and Zhang Li of the PLA Army Engineering University have shared their report on this. According to this, Japan has demonstrated unique offensive capabilities and strong stealth by doing so.

Tension over Taiwan

China claims Taiwan as its territory. It says it can even use force to bring it under its control. However, the United States and Japan oppose any policy of forceful occupation of Taiwan, and Japan has clearly stated that it will intervene militarily if Taiwan is attacked.

The report raises concerns that Japan will combine its Type 12 missiles with hypervelocity gliding projectiles, a joint strike capability that will soon be deployed. Japan is also deploying a hypersonic glide weapon at Camp Fuji, with a range of 500–900 km and a potential range of 3,000 km.
