Locals, terrified by the tremors, rushed from their homes and offices. The US Geological Survey (USGS) measured the magnitude of the early morning quake at 7.4. Authorities have issued a tsunami alert following the earthquake.
Dangerous tsunami alert
According to APTN, officials said that an earthquake in Indonesian waters on Thursday morning triggered tsunami waves, killing at least one person and damaging several homes and buildings. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the 7.4 magnitude quake was centered at a depth of 35 kilometers (22 miles) in the Molucca Sea. The US monitoring center has issued a warning, warning of the possibility of a dangerous tsunami within a 1,000-kilometer radius of the epicenter.
Appeal to people to be cautious
Indonesia 's disaster management agency said a 70-year-old woman was killed and another resident was injured in the Minahasa district of North Sulawesi.
