News Topical, Digital Desk : Hindu scriptures and mythology contain many fascinating stories about the mysteries of creation. The ocean, which we see today as a vast and limitless reservoir of salt water, was not always like this, according to mythological beliefs. There was a time when the sea water was as white as milk and as sweet as honey. However, a curse from Goddess Parvati turned it into salt water forever.

When the beauty of the sea is eclipsed

According to legend , during the Satya Yuga, the waters of the ocean were extremely pure, sweet, and drinkable. The ocean was very proud of its beauty and the purity of its waters. At the same time, Goddess Parvati was engrossed in her penance and meditation.

Once, in Lord Shiva's absence, Goddess Parvati was preparing to bathe. She had made special arrangements to protect her modesty and privacy. However, the ocean god, so captivated by Goddess Parvati's divine form and radiance, attempted to overstep the bounds of propriety.

Mother Parvati's anger and curse

The ocean god's fickleness and evil eye enraged Goddess Parvati. Goddess Parvati, the embodiment of Shakti, considered this an insult to a woman's dignity. She realized that the very waters that the ocean god so admired were the source of his own arrogance.

In anger, Mother Parvati cursed the Sea God - "The sweet water of which you are so proud and because of which you have forgotten your limits, that water will no longer be fit for anyone to drink. From today onwards, all your water will become saline."

The effect of the curse and the truth today

As soon as Goddess Parvati cursed him, the sweet ocean waters immediately turned salty. The Sea God realized his mistake and apologized to her, but the curse could not be revoked. From then until today, the oceans around the world have remained salty. This is why no human can drink sea water, even if they are desperate for it.
