News Topical, Digital Desk : There are many stories related to the life of Lord Krishna that still astonish people. One of the most debated is his 16,108 wives. Why did Lord Krishna, the epitome of love, marry so many times? Was there a personal reason behind this or a larger social purpose?

Terror of Narakasura

According to the Srimad Bhagavata Purana , the original text written by Ved Vyas, there was a powerful and ruthless demon named Narakasura. Intoxicated with his power, he wreaked havoc on both heaven and earth. He not only defeated the gods but also stole the earrings of Aditi, the mother of Lord Indra.

According to mythology, Narakasura attacked various kingdoms and took 16,000 girls hostage. These girls were extremely beautiful and cultured, and he kept them captive.

End of injustice

When Lord Krishna learned of Narakasura's atrocities, he attacked him. After a fierce battle, he killed Narakasura and freed all 16,000 girls from his slavery. Krishna killed Narakasura, the demon king of Pragjyotishpur, with the help of his wife Satyabhama.

The reason behind 16,000 marriages

After liberation, a major problem arose. Shri Krishna was faced with a dilemma. After liberation, the girls had no family. Their relatives had been killed. They then prayed to Murali Manohar to not abandon them and allow them to live under his protection. Then, to protect the girls' dignity and respect, Shri Krishna appeared in sixteen thousand forms and married them all.

According to the Bhagavata Purana, Shri Krishna gave each of his 16,000 wives a house, maids and luxuries and spent time with each one of them individually.
