News Topical, Digital Desk : Bollywood star comedian Rajpal Yadav is in the news these days. He was sent to Tihar Jail in connection with a ₹9 crore check bounce case. Currently, the Delhi High Court granted him interim bail on February 16th. As a result, there is a debate about who the person from whom Rajpal Yadav took the loan is. Rajpal Yadav took a loan of 5 crore rupees from businessman Madhav Gopal Agarwal for his film "Aata Pata Lapata." The film flopped, and Rajpal was unable to repay the loan, which also accrued interest.
Who is Madhav Agarwal?
Madhav Gopal Agarwal is associated with Murali Projects Private Limited. He has no connection to the film industry. He is best known in the industry for his business ventures. He is also associated with major companies such as KR Pulp & Papers Limited .In an interview with News Pinch, Agarwal revealed that he first met Rajpal Yadav through MP Mithilesh Kumar Katheria.
The actor had asked for financial help
He said that during their first meeting, Rajpal Yadav told him that "Aata Pata Lapata" was almost complete and that he needed immediate funding. He pleaded for help, stating that if he didn't receive immediate financial assistance, his project would be shelved.
At first, Agarwal refused to lend the money. However, he later claimed that the actor's wife, Radha, contacted him several times, pleading for help. Agarwal was moved by the emotional messages, and he agreed to help.
Rajpal had to pay back the loan
Madhav Agarwal stated that he gave the actor ₹5 crore (50 million rupees) under a formal agreement. According to him, the papers clearly stated that the payment would not be linked to the film's success, certification, or release. Agarwal himself had borrowed this money from various other funds. He also recounted how he went to Rajpal Yadav's house in a crisis, where he cried in front of him, pleading with him to repay the money on time. Madhav Gopal Agarwal stated that it was clear from the outset that this was a loan, not an investment, because investments do not require personal guarantees or checks.
Ata Pata Lapata earned only 3.7 million rupees. Later, when Madhav demanded the money, Rajpal went bankrupt. Madhav's company claimed that all the checks the actor issued bounced. The court found the actor guilty and sentenced him to six months in prison in 2018. The trial continued, and the interest on the amount continued to accumulate.
