US Representative Sydney Kamlager-Dove also said that Trump's policies towards India amount to insulting us just to spite us. She said that this selfie post of PM Modi and President Putin speaks a thousand words.
He said that we need to do a lot of work under this government to undo the damage done to the India-US partnership and to provide the support necessary for America's progress, security, and global leadership.
Concerns were also raised over trade barriers.
During the same event, US Representative Pramila Jayapal expressed concern over trade barriers and immigration policies that are impacting India-US economic and people-to-people relations.
Jaipal pointed to the current tariff challenges affecting both countries and emphasized their consequences for businesses and consumers. He said, "We too are facing challenges related to tariffs." He claimed that the tariffs imposed by the United States are harming the Indian economy.
It's worth noting that the US previously imposed 50% tariffs on most Indian goods through August 2025 due to a major trade dispute and concerns about India's purchase of Russian oil. Trump's new warning has added new uncertainty to already difficult negotiations, raising the risk of further trade conflict between the two countries.
