
News Topical, Digital Desk : The Indian Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains in many parts of the country on 21 June (Saturday). Although the arrival of monsoon in most parts of the country has brought relief from the heat, but heat continues to wreak havoc in some areas of Rajasthan. On Saturday, Ganganagar was the hottest city in the country. The maximum temperature here was recorded at 42.8 degrees. Apart from this, the mercury also crossed 40 degrees in Suratgarh and Jaisalmer. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert warning of heavy rains in some areas of northeastern states and Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
In case an orange alert is issued, the general public is advised to keep an eye on the situation and be prepared to take necessary steps for safety. According to the Meteorological Department, a yellow alert has been issued for all places except the southwest region of the country and some parts of West Bengal. Heavy rains may occur in these places too.
Yellow alert in Delhi, air becomes clean
A 'yellow' alert has been issued in Delhi due to the forecast of thunderstorms and rain. On Friday, the air here was the cleanest since September last year. The Air Quality Index (AQI) remained in the 'satisfactory' category at 75 for the fourth consecutive day. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Air Quality Index (AQI) at 4 pm was 75, which falls in the satisfactory category. This is the cleanest air since September 28, 2024. The AQI was 67 on September 28 last year. The AQI here was recorded at 89, 80 and 96 on June 19, June 18 and June 17 respectively, which is in the 'satisfactory' category. On Monday, the air quality was recorded in the 'moderate' category with 111.
Landslide due to rain in Himachal Pradesh
Landslides were reported at several places on Friday due to rain in various parts of Himachal Pradesh. The local meteorological center has issued an 'orange alert' for extremely heavy rains in some areas of the state on June 22, 23, 25 and 26. Officials said that due to the landslide, traffic on the Dharamshala-Chatro-Gaggal road has been disrupted and work is on to reopen the road. There have also been reports of waterlogging in Shaheed Inder Singh Middle School in Pandoh, due to which students had to face trouble. The Meteorological Department has issued an 'orange alert' for extremely heavy rains at some places for Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday and a 'yellow alert' for Tuesday.
Highest rainfall in Nahan
The highest rainfall in the state was recorded in Nahan at 84.7 mm, followed by Pandoh at 35 mm, Slappar at 26.3 mm, Sarahan at 20.5 mm, Paonta Sahib at 19.8 mm, Jogindernagar at 19 mm, Pachhad at 17.2 mm, Rampur at 15.6 mm and Gohar at 15 mm. Sundernagar, Shimla and Kangra witnessed thunderstorms, while Bajaura witnessed strong winds at a speed of 37 kmph. The weather department has warned that heavy rains in the middle and lower hill areas may cause landslides, waterlogging in low-lying areas and partial damage to weak structures as well as vehicle skidding due to slippery roads and low visibility. According to the forecast, conditions are favourable for the southwest monsoon to advance into some parts of Himachal Pradesh in the next two to three days.
Rain in many parts of Haryana
Many parts of Punjab and Haryana received rain on Friday, bringing down the temperature. According to the Meteorological Department, Chandigarh, the joint capital of the two states, recorded 9.7 mm of rain till morning. Many areas including Rohtak, Faridabad and Gurugram in Haryana received rain, while light rain was recorded in Pathankot, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar and Hoshiarpur in Punjab. The Meteorological Department says that favorable conditions are being created for the southwest monsoon to advance into some parts of Punjab and Haryana in the coming days. Light to moderate rain is expected at many places in Punjab on June 24, at many places on June 21 and 23, while at most places on June 22 and 25. Rain is also expected at most places in Haryana and Chandigarh on June 21, 22, 23 and 25, and at some places on June 24.
