News Topical, Digital Desk : Questions are now being raised in the US about the decision to go to war against Iran. It is being claimed that US President Donald Trump made this decision hastily, despite the CIA's claim that the plan was a hoax.
Indeed, the New York Times reported that the decision to go to war against Iran in the US was made amid tension and uncertainty. It began with a highly secretive meeting in the White House Situation Room, in which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Mossad chief proposed a joint military operation.
Trump endorses Netanyahu's claim
Netanyahu's main strategy was "regime change." He claimed that massive bombing would destroy Iran's missile program and that the people would take to the streets to overthrow the regime. This very idea of regime change appealed to Trump.
The CIA was suspicious of the plan.
However, the US intelligence agency, the CIA, was not convinced by this plan. CIA chief Ratcliffe expressed apprehension and dismissed claims of popular uprising and regime change as "bogus," while Vice President J.D. Vance also expressed strong doubts. The US military believed that Israel often "oversold" its military objectives to draw the US into war.
And that's how the game changed.
But new intelligence changed the game. It was reported that Iran's Supreme Leader, the Ayatollah, was about to meet in Tehran. Trump saw this as a rare opportunity to dismantle the Iranian leadership, and ultimately, despite their differences, he gave the green light to Operation Epic Fury at the February 26th meeting.
