In Uttar Pradesh, Prayagraj is in second place after the capital Lucknow in terms of passenger buses operating unauthorisedly. The maximum number of such buses, 773, are operating on the roads of Lucknow, whose registration, fitness certificate and insurance period have expired. While the number of such buses operating in Prayagraj is 723. Varanasi is in third place, where 687 buses are operating unauthorisedly. In this regard, Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh has sent a letter to the commissioners, district magistrates and RTOs of all the districts and asked them to take effective action against such buses.
Varanasi is at third place in the matter of operation of unauthorized buses, here the registration, fitness certificate and insurance of 687 buses out of 2427 has expired. Ghaziabad is at fourth place, here 630 buses out of 2510 are being operated unauthorizedly. Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida) is at fifth place, here 539 buses out of 4196 are being operated unauthorizedly. While the registration, fitness and insurance of a total of 49186 buses are validly registered in the RTO offices of 75 districts of the state. Whereas 13661 buses are running even after the time period has passed.
Most unfit school vehicles in Varanasi
Similarly in the case of school vehicles, the number of valid insurance, fitness certificate and registration in 75 districts of the state is 44,790 and out of these the number of school vehicles which have become unfit is 12,520 as recorded in the data on the vehicle portal of the transport department. Varanasi is on top in the case of unfit school vehicles, here out of 2223 school vehicles, 914 have become unfit. Azamgarh is on the second number, here 1316 school vehicles were found to be valid and 552 are being operated illegally. Prayagraj is at 11th number in this matter. Here in the RTO office the registration and fitness certificate of 987 school vehicles are correct and the number of unfit vehicles is 330.
ARTO Administration, Rajiv Chaturvedi said that a continuous campaign is being run against unauthorized buses and unfit school vehicles in the district. Now the campaign will be further intensified in collaboration with the police administration.
