News Topical, Digital Desk : Amid the ongoing fighting in the Middle East, US President Trump has indicated he will end the ongoing military campaign against Iran within four to six weeks. Trump believes that since the US is no longer dependent on energy from the Middle East, he can end the ongoing war with Iran without opening the Strait of Hormuz.

According to a report in The Wall Street Journal, US President Trump is considering ending the US military campaign in Iran. He has indicated to his allies that he is prepared to end the military operation against Iran within a four- to six-week timeline, even if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed.

Military operations can be ended after achieving the target

Trump believes that if the US achieves its main objectives, such as weakening Iran's naval and missile capabilities, it can end its hostilities and declare victory, even if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed.

America is not dependent on energy from the Middle East.

Trump explained that 84% of the oil passing through the Strait of Hormuz goes to Asian markets. Therefore, reopening it should be a priority for Asia and Europe now that the US is no longer dependent on energy from the Middle East.

Trump's decision could further strengthen Iran's control over the Strait of Hormuz. If Trump does so, Iran could retain control of one of the world's most important energy routes, focusing diplomatic efforts to reopen it.

Trump's U-turn

It is noteworthy that Trump had repeatedly warned Iran of severe attacks if it blocked shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. After repeatedly threatening to destroy Iran, Trump's withdrawal without reopening the Strait of Hormuz represents a significant U-turn.

According to the report, Trump and his advisors believe that trying to force the Strait of Hormuz open could lead to a prolonged war. Therefore, the Trump administration has decided that instead of attempting to force the Strait of Hormuz, its current strategy is focusing on weakening Iran's naval and missile capabilities before scaling down military operations.
