News Topical, Digital Desk : We all know how busy weddings can be. The day is filled with guests, preparations, shopping, decorations, and then the night-long rituals. The first and most important thing to suffer is sleep. Often, people only get 4 to 5 hours of sleep during the wedding week, which results in irritability, fatigue, poor concentration, and fatigue.

Did you know that just as we make all the other wedding preparations in advance, like clothes, makeup, budget, menu, photographer, we can also plan for sleep? This preparation is called "sleep banking," meaning storing up sleep in advance so that lack of sleep during busy days has less impact on the body and mind. So let's find out what sleep banking is and how to prepare a sleep bank now if there's a wedding coming up.

What is sleep banking?

Sleep banking means that if you need to sleep less in the coming days, increase your sleep every night in the four to seven days beforehand. By about one to two hours, meaning if you sleep seven hours a day, try sleeping eight to nine hours for a few days. This allows your body to accumulate rest in advance, and even if you get less sleep during a busy time like a wedding, you won't feel as tired. Just like you deposit money in a bank so that you can withdraw it when needed, you can also build up a stock of sleep.

Why is sleep banking important?

During weddings, staying up late, rushing to the stage, spending time with relatives, waking up early, and constantly working and hustle-bustle can all lead to sleep deprivation. This leads to fatigue, a dampened mood, and less enjoyment. However, increasing your sleep four to five days in advance will help you feel more energized, reduce the effects of sleep deprivation, reduce irritability and lethargy, and boost your brain's efficiency, allowing you to enjoy every moment of your wedding. According to scientists, getting more sleep in advance improves the quality of deep sleep, which repairs the body from within. This helps the body better withstand fatigue during the busy days ahead.

How to prepare for sleep banking right now

1. Increase your sleep 5 to 7 days before the wedding - Try to sleep 1 to 2 hours more each night. If you usually go to bed at 11 p.m., go to bed at 9:30.

2. Aim to spend 9 to 10 hours in bed – this will give your body enough time to get deep sleep.

3.   Reduce your screen time at night – Screens keep your mind awake. Don't make this mistake before your wedding.

4. Keep the room quiet – this helps in getting faster and deeper sleep.

5.   If you don't get enough sleep on your wedding night, take a 20-30 minute nap the next day. This will provide instant relief.
