News Topical, Digital Desk : The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has expressed serious concern over the human rights and security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, stating that the Pakistani government is unable to protect the right to life and liberty of citizens.
A fact-finding mission led by the HRCP held meetings with a wide range of civil society from September 24 to 26. Locals expressed concerns about increasing violence, displacement and security operations, and the exploitation of natural resources under the proposed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mines and Minerals Act 2025.
Protesting leads to murder
They say militants are operating unchecked in many areas. They are extorting money from residents, killing those who resist, and restricting public movement after noon. Some reports suggest that law enforcement agencies have ceased operations in these areas.
Any steps being taken to silence the workers
According to the NI, the Pakistani military is taking every step to silence human rights activists. Human rights activist and former president of the Baloch Students Organization, Zubair Baloch, was allegedly killed along with his colleague, Nasir Baloch, in a Pakistani army raid. The Baloch Nationalist Movement has strongly criticized the incident, calling it an act of state terrorism.
