It was released in Hindi as well as in English language with a similar name, the story of which was written by Pearl S. Buck. All the songs of 'Guide' made in Hindi were superhits.
However, the journey of creating Guide's evergreen songs was not easy at all. The responsibility of the music and all the songs of this film was on the shoulders of composer SD Burman. According to reports, when SD Burman was composing the music of 'Guide', he suffered a heart attack, after which he was immediately taken to the hospital. The doctor advised him to get treatment and rest.
This decision of Dev Anand saved SD Burman's career
In this difficult time in SD Burman's life, while many directors and producers gave him the work and got it done by some other musician, Dev Anand took a big decision. Dev Anand postponed his film for 6 months and made it clear that SD Burman will compose the music of the film, no matter how many months it takes.
One day Dev Anand went to the hospital to meet SD Burman and enquired about his health. He told him that no matter how much time it takes. He told SD Burman to get well because he has to give music for his film. Hearing this from Dev Anand, music composer and singer SD Burman's eyes became moist and he nodded yes.
The music of 'Guide' was composed from the hospital bed
In Tanuja's book, Dev Anand's brother Vijay Anand had mentioned that seeing Dev Anand's generosity, SD Burman started composing the music for the film while he was admitted in the hospital. It is said that as soon as SD Burman was discharged from the hospital and returned home, he composed all the songs of Dev Anand's film within just five days without working day and night.
Let us tell you that one song of Guide 'Wahan Kaun Hai Tera' was sung by SD Burman. Apart from this, all the songs including 'Aaj Phir Jeene Ki Tamanna Hai', Gaata Rahe Mera Dil, Din Dhal Jaye, Kya Se Kya Ho Gaye, Piya Tose Naina Lage Re were sung by Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar and Mohammad Rafi.
