According to a report by Colombian local media outlet Noticias Caracol, influencer Maria Jose lived in the La Rivera neighborhood of the city. She was at home when a man dressed as a deliveryman arrived at her doorstep. Maria Jose thought someone had brought a gift for her, and as she reached out to receive the gift, she was shot.

 

Suspect seen running in CCTV

Footage from a CCTV camera installed in the neighbourhood shows the suspect running away from Maria Jose's house after shooting her. Cries for help can also be heard from behind.

 

According to reports, Maria was rushed to hospital soon after the incident, but she died during treatment. According to police, the incident occurred around 1:00 pm local time. "She was killed by a man who was pretending to deliver a parcel," said Colonel Leonardo Capacho of the Metropolitan Police of Cucuta.

 

According to local media reports, Maria Jose Estupinan Sanchez was a well-to-do person. The attack happened just a day after she won a domestic violence case against her ex-boyfriend, for which Jose received compensation of about US$7,000. According to a report by Canal TRO, authorities are now investigating the ex-boyfriend as a prime suspect as they believe her court victory may have some connection to her murder.

 

Maria was a college student and model

No arrests have been confirmed yet. Police are searching for the main suspect, seen in security footage wearing a jacket, jeans and a backpack with a black hat. María José Sánchez, a seventh-semester student studying social communication at the University of Pamplona, ​​often posted on social media about her life and lifestyle as a model and a student. This gained her quite a following.

 

The attack on Maria comes just days after Mexican influencer Valeria Marquez was shot dead during a live stream. The TikToker was also targeted by a man posing as a deliveryman. Her murder has been labelled a 'femicide' and is being investigated.
