News Topical, Digital Desk : A dispute has erupted between two students at Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi. A postgraduate student has alleged that he was beaten in front of the class after being asked about his caste. He also alleges that another student, who belongs to the OBC community, made casteist remarks and assaulted him in front of the class. 

This case has made headlines because the general category student has accused the student who assaulted him, who belongs to the OBC community, of making casteist remarks. A case has been registered against the student at the Lanka police station in Varanasi, and he has been arrested and is being interrogated. 

Allegations of assault by making casteist remarks

The victim is a second-year MA student in the university's Hindi department. In his complaint to the police, he stated that the incident occurred while he was on his way to his class. The accused student approached him and questioned him about his course, leading to an argument between the two. The victim says the accused then verbally abused him, allegedly using casteist slurs, and assaulted him.

Meanwhile, the OBC student against whom the complaint has been filed claims he did not make any casteist remarks. The allegations against him are false. The police have filed a complaint in this matter. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered against the student at Lanka Police Station under sections 115 (2), 352, and 351 (3) of the IPC. 

Speaking to ABP News, Varanasi police stated that CCTV footage has been obtained. The case will also be investigated based on the voice. The investigation is being conducted based on the complaint filed by the complainant. If anything remains unclear, statements from those present will be recorded, and further legal action will be taken based on this.
