News Topical, Digital Desk : Tatiana Schlossberg, granddaughter of former US President John F. Kennedy and renowned environmental journalist, died of cancer on Tuesday morning. She was just 35 years old.

The sad news was shared by her family on the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation's Instagram account. The family statement read, "Our beautiful Tatiana passed away this morning. She will always be in our hearts."

The announcement of Tatiana's death sparked an outpouring of grief worldwide. She was a talented journalist who wrote extensively on climate change and environmental issues.

The endless pain of family

The family remembered Tatiana in a short but emotional statement. The post was on behalf of her entire family, including her husband, George Moran, her children, her parents, Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg, and her siblings, Jack and Rose. Tatiana has two young children: a son and a daughter.

Their daughter was born in May 2024, and her illness was discovered around the same time. Tatiana's mother, Caroline Kennedy, is a former diplomat, and her father, Edwin, is a designer. The Kennedy family has already experienced many tragedies, and this loss is a further blow.

When was the disease detected?

Tatiana was diagnosed with a dangerous blood cancer called acute myeloid leukemia shortly after the birth of her second child in May 2024. After the baby was born, doctors found her white blood cell count was abnormally high.

This cancer usually occurs in the elderly, but Tatiana had a rare genetic mutation called inversion 3. It is a very aggressive form and difficult to treat.

In November, she penned a poignant essay in The New Yorker magazine, detailing her illness. She underwent multiple rounds of chemotherapy, two stem cell transplants, and participated in clinical trials, but the cancer returned.

The doctor said they could keep him alive for a year at most. In the essay, he wrote, "My first thought was that my children, whose faces are always in my eyes, will not remember me."

Tatiana was a brilliant journalist

Tatiana was a former science and climate reporter for the New York Times and has written for major publications such as The Atlantic and Vanity Fair.

In 2019, her book, "Inconspicuous Consumption: The Environmental Impact You Don't Know You Have," was published, which explores our everyday impact on the environment. This book was also award-winning. She always maintained that saving the environment was important not just for polar bears, but for people as well. Her writing was simple yet effective.

Relative RFK Jr. receives sharp criticism

In her essay, Tatiana sharply criticized her cousin, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is now the Secretary of Health in the Trump administration. She wrote that from her hospital bed, she watched as RFK Jr. limited access to vaccines and cut funding for medical research.

"I saw Bobby, against logic and common sense, confirmed to this position, with no experience in medicine, public health or government.
