News Topical, Digital Desk : Stock Market Today: The Indian stock market started the third trading session of the week on Wednesday, January 21st. Major benchmark indices, the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50, opened in the red.
The 30-share BSE Sensex index fell 385.82 points, or 0.47 percent, to 81,794.65, while the NSE Nifty 50 opened 91.50 points, or 0.36 percent, lower at 25,141.00. However, both indices recovered after the initial decline, but soon returned to trading in the red. At around 9:20 am, the Sensex was trading 124 points lower at 82,055. The Nifty 50 slipped 18 points to trade at 25,213.

How was the market on Tuesday?
The Indian stock market witnessed a sharp decline on Tuesday, January 20, with both major benchmark indices closing in the red. The Sensex fell 1,065.71 points, or 1.28 percent, to 82,180.47, while the NSE Nifty 50 slid 353.00 points, or 1.38 percent, to end the day at 25,232.50.
HDFC Bank was the top gainer in the BSE basket. Eternal, Bajaj Finance, Sun Pharma, Indigo, and Trent were the top losers. Nifty Midcap 100, Nifty 100, Nifty Bank, Nifty IT, Nifty Smallcap 100, Nifty Auto, and Nifty FMCG stocks declined. On Tuesday, only one stock in the BSE basket closed in the green, while 29 stocks declined.
