News Topical, Digital Desk : The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Monday a petition filed by a Muslim party challenging the survey order issued by the Chandausi court for the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh.
According to the list published on the Supreme Court website, a bench of Justice PS Narasimha and Justice Alok Aradhe will hear the matter on April 20.
The mosque committee filed a petition
The petition was filed by the mosque committee, which is contesting a survey process order issued in the ongoing dispute regarding the Shahi Jama Masjid. Hindu organizations claim that the mosque was built on top of an earlier temple that was demolished during the Mughal period.
The Supreme Court has given this direction
Earlier, the apex court, while hearing a special leave petition challenging the Allahabad High Court's refusal to stay the survey proceedings, had directed both Hindu and Muslim parties to maintain status quo at the disputed site.
