News Topical, Digital Desk : Maharashtra Politics: Maharashtra OBC leader and Rashtriya Samaj Paksha founder Mahadev Jankar was shocked by the absence of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar at the 300th birth anniversary celebrations of Ahilyabai Holkar held at Talkatora Stadium in Delhi.
Mahadev Jankar, who is considered a prominent leader of the Dhangar community, had invited Rahul Gandhi, Sharad Pawar and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav for the event, but only Maharashtra state president Harshvardhan Sapkal was sent from the Congress side, while Sharad Pawar expressed his inability to come due to personal reasons.
Mahadev Jankar was earlier with BJP.
Jankar's role in politics has changed many times. He was once considered close to late BJP leader Gopinath Munde. In 2015, he became a member of Maharashtra Legislative Council with the support of BJP and also held the post of minister in the Devendra Fadnavis government.
However, in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he contested from Baramati seat against NCP's Supriya Sule, in which he lost by about 70,000 votes. Before the Maharashtra assembly elections last year, his relations with the BJP soured and he parted ways with the Mahayuti alliance.
Sharad Pawar did not come due to personal reasons, Congress also paid homage-
After distancing himself from BJP, Jankar showed inclination towards the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). He met Rahul Gandhi this month and invited him to the function organized at Talkatora Stadium.
Jankar told PTI that BJP left him before the elections and according to him it was his political mistake to form an alliance with Mahayuti. He said that Sharad Pawar refused to come due to some personal issues and Gandhi also sent Sapkal instead of coming himself to pay his respects.
Let us tell you that the Dhangar community has a special influence in the politics of Maharashtra. They have a strong presence in Lok Sabha constituencies like Solapur, Sangli, Baramati, Parbhani and Satara, which can affect the results of 25 to 30 assembly seats. Jankar had also sent invitations to RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin for the function. But the absence of big opposition leaders makes it clear that Jankar is currently not getting full support from either the ruling party or the opposition, raising questions about his political future.
