News Topical, Digital Desk : India has sent a strong message to Pakistan at the United Nations Human Rights Council, asking how a country with its own record of persecution of minorities can dare to preach to others on human rights.

At the 34th meeting of the 60th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva on Wednesday, Indian diplomat Mohammad Hussain sharply criticized Islamabad's hypocrisy.

India reprimanded Pakistan

He said, "India finds it extremely ironic that a country like Pakistan wants to preach to others on human rights. Instead of spreading propaganda, Pakistan should face the oppression of minorities on its own soil."

Hussain said this when Pakistan, ignoring its domestic failures, was repeatedly trying to defame India on international forums.

Human rights violations in Pakistan

Others present at the UNHRC also pointed to human rights violations in Pakistan in their remarks. Geopolitical researcher Josh Bowes highlighted alleged human rights violations in Balochistan and echoed India's criticism that Islamabad routinely oppresses its most vulnerable communities while adopting a moralistic stance abroad.

"The USCIRF Religious Freedom Report for 2025 states that more than 700 individuals are in prison on blasphemy charges, a 300 percent increase from the previous year," he said.

He said the Baloch National Movement's human rights wing, Paank, recorded 785 enforced disappearances and 121 killings in the first six months of 2025. He said the Pashtun National Jirga reported that around 4,000 Pashtuns have gone missing this year.

Meanwhile, United Kashmir People's National Party (UKPNP) spokesperson Nasir Aziz Khan urged the United Nations and the international community to intervene against Pakistan's increasing repression in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). Speaking in Geneva, Khan warned of a worsening humanitarian crisis in the region.
