In the Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, members of the Istrana tribe had gathered to resolve a dispute over the theft of a motorcycle belonging to an elder. They had gone to meet Zulfiqar Marwat, the man accused of snatching the motorcycle.

According to police, the suspect opened fire on jirga members during the meeting, killing six people on the spot and wounding two others. Zulfiqar Marwat fled the scene on a motorcycle.

The police launched a search to apprehend him. Acting on intelligence about Marwat and his associates, they raided the location, where Marwat and his associates opened fire on the police.
