
News Topical, Digital Desk : Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday paid tribute to the state agitators and honored their families on the 31st anniversary of the Mussoorie firing incident. This firing incident took place in 1994.
During a program in Mussoorie on the anniversary of the firing, the Chief Minister said that the state government is working towards the creation of the Uttarakhand which was dreamt of by the state agitators.
CM Dhami paid tribute
Meanwhile, paying tribute to those killed in the firing incident, including Balbir Singh Negi, Belmati Chauhan, Hansa Dhanai, Dhanpat Singh, Rai Singh Bangari and Madan Mohan Mamgai, Dhami said they sacrificed their lives for the creation of Uttarakhand.
He said, 'Without his unique contribution, the creation of Uttarakhand would not have been possible.' Describing September 2, 1994 as a dark chapter in history, Dhami said that despite peaceful demonstrations, the agitators had to face police bullets demanding statehood for Uttarakhand.
CM Dhami targeted the ruling parties of that time
He said, 'This is a symbol of the repressive attitude of the ruling parties of the time, who tried to brutally crush a peaceful movement.' The Chief Minister stressed that recently 10 percent horizontal reservation has been implemented in government jobs for the state agitators.
And this initiative has been taken by the state government as a mark of gratitude to the agitators for their role in the formation of the state. He said, 'The widows and divorced daughters of the identified agitators will also be able to avail the benefits of this reservation.'
Families of protesters will get monthly pension
Apart from this, a monthly pension of Rs 3000 has also been started for the families of the agitators, while the injured and jailed agitators are being given a pension of Rs 6000 and the active agitators are being given a pension of Rs 4500 per month. He said that identity cards have been issued to the identified agitators and 93 of them have been given government jobs.
The CM said that the agitators are being given free travel facility in government buses and their children are being given free education in schools and colleges. He said, 'The implementation of Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is also a step towards the creation of a Uttarakhand where our culture, language and traditions are protected. It ensures equal rights and duties for all the citizens of the state.'
