A government notice issued in this regard stated that it has been decided to declare October 7, 2025, a public holiday on the occasion of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti. The government has ordered all government offices, educational institutions, and other government departments to remain closed on this day.
Will the holiday affect banks as well?
The government order also clarified that this holiday will not be subject to the Negotiable Instruments Act of 1881. This means that while it is a public holiday, it is generally not a mandatory holiday for banks and financial institutions. Banks will remain open on this day.
The people of Valmiki community had made the demand
In fact, the Bharatiya Valmiki Dharma Samaj had demanded a public holiday on the occasion of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti. The society's officials submitted a memorandum to the government requesting a public holiday on October 7th. According to the society, this day used to be a public holiday, but the government later canceled it.
CM Yogi Adityanath had announced
It should be noted that on September 27th, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while addressing a public meeting during his visit to Shravasti, announced a holiday on the occasion of Valmiki Jayanti. Yogi Adityanath said, "October 7th is the sacred birth anniversary of Lord Maharishi Valmiki. We are announcing that day will be a holiday in the state."
