News Topical, Digital Desk : US President Donald Trump has once again claimed to have stopped the war between India and Pakistan in May. Furthermore, he made the bizarre claim that eight aircraft were shot down in the conflict.
In fact, yesterday at the US Business Forum in Miami, Trump reiterated his claim to have stopped the war. He stated that he had threatened to cancel trade agreements between India and Pakistan. However, India has already clarified that no third party has intervened between the two countries.
Trump reiterates claim of stopping Indo-Pak conflict
US President Trump has increased the number of fighter jets shot down during the India-Pakistan conflict from seven to eight. The US President has claimed to have stopped eight ongoing wars worldwide since taking office. These eight conflicts include the India-Pakistan war that took place in May. He also claims to have stopped the Kosovo-Serbia and Congo-Rwanda conflicts.
Know what Trump said
Donald Trump said, "I was negotiating a trade agreement with India and Pakistan when I heard that these two countries were going to war. In the conflict between the two countries, seven planes were shot down and an eighth was badly damaged. In fact, eight planes were shot down. Trump said that he told both countries, 'I will not make any trade agreement with you unless you agree to peace.'"
Trump said that after his threat, both countries said trade had nothing to do with this war. But I said it had everything to do with it. You're a nuclear power. I'm not doing business with you. We're not doing any deals with you if you're at war.
Trump said he received a call the next day informing him that peace had been reached between the two countries. He said he welcomed the decision and moved forward with trade with both countries.
India denies US President's claim
It's worth noting that India has already refuted this claim by the US President. India clearly stated that the ceasefire occurred on May 10th after Pakistani commanders appealed to their Indian counterparts to halt the offensive. Despite this, Trump has not stopped repeating his claim. Since May, he has been repeating the claim that India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire after long nighttime negotiations brokered by the US.
