Kolkata: A woman was injured in a sudden explosion on SN Banerjee Road in Kolkata on Saturday afternoon. After the explosion, there was chaos in the entire area. Immediately after the incident, the bomb squad was called. Senior officers of Kolkata Police also reached the spot. The police have cordoned off the spot and started investigation. The injured woman has been admitted to the hospital.
According to Kolkata Police, the explosion was reported at 1.45 pm between Blochman Street and SN Banerjee Road. Initial investigations revealed that a plastic bag was lying on the roadside in which the explosion took place. Police and the bomb disposal team examined the bag and the surrounding things at the spot.
Forensic team collected samples
After the incident, the forensic team reached the spot and collected samples. After the explosion, the police stopped the traffic on the busy SN Banerjee Road for some time. After investigation, the traffic on that road was restored again. It is not yet known who had kept this sack and for what purpose.
State BJP president expressed concern
Meanwhile, state BJP president and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar expressed concern over this incident and said that this case should be investigated properly. Kolkata Police will not be able to investigate the blast because they do not have the right technology and people. He demanded that the investigation of this case be handed over to the NIA.
He also demanded resignation from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Majumdar said that this is the failure of Mamata Banerjee as Home Minister. She should resign from the post immediately. In fact, BJP is continuously demanding resignation of Mamata over RG tax scandal.
