New Delhi: The Karnataka High Court has raised questions on the law and order situation in an area of Bengaluru. The judge even had to say that it seems that this area is not in India but in Pakistan.
The comment of Karnataka High Court judge Justice V. Srishanand is going viral on social media. The judge was referring to Gori Palya area of West Bengaluru. He made this comment in open court while hearing a case related to insurance.
The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognizance of this comment of the judge. A bench of 5 judges sought a report from the HC registrar. The matter will be heard on Wednesday.
What did the judge say?
Justice V. Sreesanand said, "Go to the Mysore Road flyover. There are 10 people in every auto rickshaw. This law does not apply because the Mysore flyover from Gori Palya to the flower market is in Pakistan, not India. This is the reality. This is the reality. No matter how tough police officers you put there, they will be beaten up there."
The judge was hearing on the powers of the land owner
The judge made these observations during a hearing related to the Rent Control Act on August 28. The judge was discussing the lease agreement and the powers of the landlord under Section 27(2)(o) of the Act.
During the hearing, the judge said, "Abroad, if you are going at a speed of even 40 kmph, the police will come and shift you to the slow lane. Here, you go at your speed, break the law and escape 304A. Go to any private school today, you will always see students riding scooters. The principals do not take any action, the parents do not take any action.
He further said, "Every two minutes you will find an auto rickshaw dropping people like this. That is the problem. No rules are implemented."
