This story may be untold and unheard for some people. We are talking about Sabu Dastagir, who is India's first Hollywood superstar and his name is also recorded in the Hollywood Hall of Fame. Sabu is an ordinary Indian boy who became Hollywood's first Indian superstar.
The story of Sabu Dastagir, who is considered to be the first Indian actor to find success in Hollywood, will soon be shown on the big screen. Producer Prabhleen Sandhu of Almighty Motion Pictures has acquired the rights of the biography, 'Sabu: The Remarkable Story of India's First Actor in Hollywood', written by Deblina Majumdar.
This upcoming biopic will be made either as a feature film or a web series. Prabhleen says, 'Sabu's story must be told with honesty. He was not only India's first Hollywood star but also a bridge between cultures, generations and countries. Bringing his journey to the screen is not just about making a film - it is a story that cannot be forgotten'.
Deblina further says, 'A big thank you to literary agent Mr. Suhail Mathur for believing in me and giving me a great idea. Also, a big thank you to Almighty Motion Pictures for shaping the story with a great vision. It was an honor for me to research this book'.
Who was Sabu Dastagir
Sabu was born in 1924 in a simple family in Mysore (now Karnataka). His father was a mahout, and Sabu spent his childhood among elephants. His luck changed when British film director Robert J. Flaherty came to India in search of a child actor for his film 'Elephant Boy'. Sabu's innocence got him the role. The film was shot at London Films Studios, Denham and Mysore.
'Elephant Boy' released in 1937 gave Sabu overnight stardom. After this, he worked in many big Hollywood films like 'The Thief of Baghdad', 'Jungle Book' and 'The Drum' and made a place in the hearts of millions of people.
His films were box office hits and he became a bridge between the East and the West. In recognition of his significant contribution to cinema, he was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960. However, he left this world soon after, Sabu died suddenly of a heart attack in 1963 at the age of 39.
