Rivers in Bihar are in spate due to rain, 2 diversions built on Tarapur-Kharagpur main road were washed away in water

News Topical, Digital Desk : Rivers are in spate due to heavy rains in many districts of Bihar. It has been raining intermittently in Munger since last Tuesday (July 15, 2025), due to which the diversion was washed away at two places in the strong flow of water on the Tarapur-Kharagpur main road. This diversion was made on the Guhiya river near Mahkola Basa and the Dangri river near the Kachhi Mor of the city area. Due to this, the traffic between Haveli Kharagpur and Tarapur was completely closed. 

Due to the diversion being washed away, people have to take a 15 km long detour and travel through rural roads. PWD is constructing bridges on this main road. Temporary diversions were made at many places so that traffic is not disrupted. Villagers said that the agency had made a weak diversion. The diversion could not withstand the strong current.

Why Baha Diversion?

It is being told that the check dam built on the Guhiya river near Tajpur has been constructed for agricultural purposes. Due to excessive water pressure, the gate was opened completely, due to which there was a strong flow in the river and the diversion was washed away. The villagers said that if the gate was not opened, the paddy seeds planted in the fields would have drowned. The paddy seeds of many farmers were ruined due to water.

Last month on 26th June, the diversion was washed away at this place. It took more than 24 hours to make it. Right now during the Shravani fair, Kanwariyas used to go to Sultanganj via Tarapur through this route. Now this route has been closed due to which Kanwariyas and common people are facing a lot of trouble. 

On the other hand, after the diversion broke, people are now waiting for it to be built. However, it is certain that it is not possible to build a diversion again until the water level of the Dangri river decreases and the flow becomes normal. In such a situation, the difficulties of the people of this area have increased. On the breaking of the diversion, villager Rakesh Kumar said that this is the Kharagpur-Tarapur main road. A small pipe (of cement) was given in this diversion but it broke due to strong winds.
