News Topical, Digital Desk : Afghanistan on Monday accused neighboring Pakistan of shelling civilian areas in its eastern region, killing at least four people and injuring around 70, according to officials.

The United Nations mission in Afghanistan also confirmed that a university in the eastern city of Asadabad was attacked, though it did not name the university or identify the perpetrators. Afghan officials say Pakistan has carried out attacks in at least nine Afghan provinces since late February.

Several people, including students, were injured.

Taliban government spokesman Hamdullah Fitrat said 30 students were among those injured in Monday's shelling, adding that all the victims were civilians.

Pakistan, meanwhile, has denied these allegations. The Pakistani government stated that the allegations of attacking the university are completely false. The Pakistani military also refused to answer any questions about the incident.

Growing tension between the two countries

Pakistan has accused the Taliban government of harboring the Tehrik-e-Taliban terrorist group, which has carried out numerous attacks in Pakistan over the years. While the Taliban government has denied these allegations, many neighboring countries and international organizations agree that such groups exist.

Students at Kunar University in Asadabad said the sudden explosions caused chaos in classrooms and dormitories. Student Ahmad Suhail Rahmani said the university was a place of hope and future, but now people were trying to flee.

Meanwhile, student Sajid Iqbal Safi said no one understood what was happening. According to locals, many people spent the night in the fields, fearing attacks, and now no one dares to return home.

The humanitarian crisis deepens

Pakistan has targeted numerous military bases, as well as businesses, mosques, and schools in Afghanistan since February, killing hundreds of civilians. On March 16, an attack on a drug rehabilitation center in Kabul killed about 240 patients, the United Nations reported.

Afghanistan is already grappling with a severe humanitarian crisis. The situation has been exacerbated by the reduction in US aid and the return of nearly 3 million Afghan civilians. According to the United Nations, nearly half the country's population, approximately 22 million people, will need humanitarian assistance this year.
